Gospel 1: It all started with Superman in the middle of Batman's trilogy

Although Man of Steel came out in 2013 (*gasp* 10 years ago!) the movie starring Henry Cavill and directed by Jehovah himself (according to some intense fans on the internet) Zack Snyder, had been cooking for a long time.  This is the beginning of the story that would unite some of the most obsessive and toxic fans on the internet. More toxic than K-pop and MCU fans. Bringing laughter, pain, and embarrassment to many people for the next decade.  Actors, studio execs, producers, writers, and directors all got caught in the hurricane. We need to go to the beginning to understand the mess that became the DC cinematic universe aka Snyder verse aka DC films, aka DC Elsewhere.  Let's start.

2010:

OCTOBER:  Deadline broke the news that Zack Snyder will be directing Man of Steel, the first Superman film since the failed Superman Returns in 2006 which starred Brandon Roth. Snyder would start rolling cameras as soon as he's done with his trippy male gaze fantasy film (sarcastically using liberal buzzwords here) Sucker Punch.  The film was in development with Chris Nolan and David Goyer. When this news broke, it had been two years since the highly successful Batman: The Dark Knight, directed by Nolan, had made 1.006 billion USD. Snyder, on the other hand, had recently directed the flop Watchmen

Who's gonna play The Man of Steel? Is the question! That would be answered next year…

2011:

JANUARY

Warner Bros. have announced that British actor Henry Cavill will play Superman in Zack Snyder’s forthcoming reboot of the superhero icon.” said NME quoting a joint statement made by WB/DC with Legendary Pictures. Cavill came close to winning the role in Superman Returns under original director Mcg, according to the article. He also came close to playing James Bond in 2006. Talk about bad luck!

Man of Steel was supposed to be scheduled for release in December 2012. That would've been 5–6 months after Nolan's trilogy ended.  (Remember the days when cinema wasn't filled with superheroes?) However, that date didn't stick.

JULY:

Warner Bros., which initially penciled in the movie for a tentative December 2012 release, announced Thursday that the movie now has an official opening date of June 14, 2013.” said THR.  WB should've taken this a sign of the impending doom and controversies to come for the next 11 years. But money talks…

AUGUST:

Man of Steel began filming, according to both THR and Collider.  Collider described in full shill, I meant hype, how the new superman looked like. Destruction! Huge battles! Whooshhh!!  SO MANY EPIC SET PIECES, YOU GUYS!! That's cool and all, but what about Christian Bale's Batman? Will he meet with this new Superman, played by Cavill? No answers until next year!

2012:

JANUARY:

While Snyder was busy creating his “opus dei” filled with gray and seriousness, fans were anxiously waiting the final part of the Nolan's Batman saga. Christian Bale made it clear that he was ready to move on. (Snyder fans should learn from him, but I'm getting ahead of myself)

“We need different rhythms in our life, don't we, and to me, it would be the wrong rhythm to jump into a franchise at this point,” he says to the New York Daily News. “For now, no, I'd be looking for new experiences.”

SUMMER:

Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises ended up being a massive critical and financial success.  The Dark Knight Rises earned $448.1 million in North America, and $632.9 million in other countries, summing up to a worldwide total of $1.081 billion. With that kind of money, of course the boomers in charge of DC Comics wanted more heroes on the big screen. Specially Batman.  It's like the Marvel after Avengers Endgame. They could've or should've stopped, but why? It made 2b.

Rumors of another Batman movie began to surface when a movie “Untitled Batman Reboot” appeared in the IMDB profile of David S. Goyer scriptwriter of the Holy trinity called Nolan's Batman trilogy. This untitled reboot was set for 2015. Will this Batman connect with Snyder's Man of Steel?

"Untitled Batman Reboot" From the IMDB of David S. Goyer.

AUGUST:

During this period, post The Dark Knight Rises, rumors began to surface that the next Batman film would come after an upcoming Justice League Movie. This Batman would join the Justice League, led by Snyder's Superman, played by Henry Cavill, according to movieweb in citing Batman on Film. Of course, this is all happening without even knowing how audiences would receive superman, but that's ok. It's green light first and later takes care of the small stuff.

Of course, no-one was prepared for the 2013…
